VIOLATION (Tow Truck Edition!): N. Fairfax Dr. and N. Monroe St.

We interrupt our regularly scheduled programming to bring you photos of an illegally parked tow truck. Why? Because tow trucks are jerks (warning: link contains adult language) and we don't like them. Unless our car won't start and we need a tow truck to save us. Then we like them just fine.

Shortly after photographic evidence of the illegal parking job was obtained, the tow truck disappeared. It was quickly relocated a block away at the corner of Wilson Blvd. and N. Lincoln St. And yes, it was illegally parked.

  • Whoever took the picture also should have called the non emergency police number and reported the offence. The Arlington Co.parking enforcement aides will gladly respond and if the offence has occured a citation will be written. Are you part of the problem by not reporting this or will you be part of the solution?

  • Thanks, turbo. After the picture was taken, the police were notified. Minutes later, the tow truck was gone, and was parked illegally again less than a block away.

  • i think you all need to get lives... im a tow truck driver myself and i would do the same exact thing... i mean whos gunna tow away a tow truck anyway? however if you were broken down on the side of the road you wouldnt be bitching about my tow truck being illegally parked anymore... rather you would be wishing i was there

  • Look, the tow truck driver parked illegally because he could. Tow truck drivers get that ability because they are the people who are serving the town. They wake up at 5am on a snowy night to come and tow your POS car that you drove into a snow bank to make peanuts, and not because they want to, but because you asked them to, and so do the police department. If your going to cry about the fact that the driver parked illegally for 2 minutes, maybe next time you should think about what you have to gain from this towing service..not how you can penalize them.

  • i am wrecker driver how ever i decide to park should be well receved by the public considering if i am in a noparking spot its usualy not for long before im off to change some old ladys tire or pull your son out of a mud hole his 2 wheel drive ranger couldent take. altho i spend most of my day doing towaways i partialy agree and try my best to park where its legal and on the rair occasion i park in a undesirable spot i try to move quickley.

Do you call the PD when a Police car is there ?? A Ambulance ?
Do you look for regular cars ?
Or you the type to just be so selfcenterd that after you where towed you have to try and make a point ??

  • Some cities and states have allowences for what is called "primary towing". This simply is what gives those of us in the towing community the "PRIVLEDGE" of serving fine upstanding IDIOTS who break down or need a tire change on a major (or minor) street or highway, without fear of prosecution for doing what we do. Get a life, complain about the cops who run red lights and sirens through school zones for Krispy Kreams.

  • Well like most states tow trucks are considered an emergency vehicle. The driver probably parked there to be closed to his truck. So if this vehicle was a fire truck or an ambulance would you be complaining. A tow truck has to respond in a reasonable amount of time to an accident(police call) maybe for someone trapped in their vehicle it maybe life or death. So what if he payed the meter or maybe he didn't it just expired, I think that tow company pays its fair share of taxes, insurance, license fees. I drive a big wrecker and I park any where I want and no law enforcement will bother me. Maybe the tow truck was parked there to make everyone pay the meter? Anyway mind your own business because the next time you need a tow truck you might get the attitude charge so think about it.

  • well, i'm also a "wrecker operator", which means that along with putting up with the degradation, reckless endangerment, and general lack of respect by the general motoring public, now there are a group of lifeless do-gooders trying to get me and my co workers tickets. tell you what- i'll return the favor. i will never again look the other way when you are trying to not get caught leaving the scene, have dope in your car, are drunk, beating your wife, have an expired plate, no license, no insurance, bald tires, lights that don't work... i'll be more than happy to do my part to make sure that you get to experience the backlash of the police state you all seem to prefer. hope you really want to live by the same rules you seem to like to see everyone else live by...
gee, i'm really glad i'm working in a combat zone, it's so much nicer to be shot at instead of dealing with selfcentered morons.

  • get a life dude. i guess you have nothing better to do with your time then pick on random people. i hope you never breakdown.

  • Maybe you should take up a new hobby b/c you suck at this!!!!!

  • Well, i can see that all tow truck drivers think alike.. I have no respect for the pirates of arlington va. Advanced towing (all bastards by the way) comes to mind. Any company that practices predatory towing should be put out of business and no, just because you get a contract with an unethical business owner to tow at will does not make it any better for you to lurk around or plant spotters to call you the instant someone gets out of their car. You know who you are.. I'm not talking the drivers that make their living helping people...

  • Fuel is the adrenaline of any car, truck or engine. Thus, it is every vehicle owner's wish to enhance the fuel of their car and save more of it as well. With this in mind, the most innovative fuel-saving tool in the automotive industry was conceptualized and created: the Tornado Fuel saver. An automotive air channeling tool that creates a swirling air motion, the Tornado Fuel Saver allows the air to move in a faster and more efficient way by whirling air around corners and bends. Hence, more fuel is saved.

  • tow truck drivers don't give a s#$t when someone else is working (say a delivery man) and is parked illegally to make his / her job more convenient...

  • I love how the mentality is that if you drive a tow truck, you can do whatever you want because you somehow think that you provide a public service. Unless you are doing it for free (all the time) then you are a business, not mother theresa. You fall under the same laws that allow you to tow at will and the assistance of the police in VA. You aren't doing anyone any favors by towing their car. It's legalized extortion, which goes unchecked because you don't have to get the police on site to authorize the tow. If you want to do everyone a favor, keep your trucks parked at your impound lot UNTIL someone calls you to provide service.. THAT's what tow truck drivers do

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 5:54 PM

  • Not a public service? Are you kidding me? Do you have any idea what the impact on the local economy is when an accident occurs on the interstate and shuts down traffic movement? If the towing industry wasn't a responsive, responsible, professional, we trained group, your city would go broke! I'm not a tow truck driver or towing company owner, but I do know a thing or two about economics and unless you all work from home, you best be thankful for what that industry does for you.

Are there bad seeds - of course. There are also bad seeds in plumbing industry, doctors, lawyers, accountants, United States Presidents - yes there are bad seeds everywhere but to group all towing companies under the umbrella of criminals is ridiculous.

  • i operate a tow truck for a living.and there's been several times i parked at an empty meter & i refuse to put money in it.because some idiot has called me for a tow or lock out.and in stead of waiting by their car .their inside some were forcing me to track them down.

By Blogger greg, at 12:13 AM

  • God. I had no idea tow truck drivers were such whiny babies. You charge money for you services, so you're no different from anyone else. You don't do these things because you're civic-minded, but because you get paid to do it. In that sense EVERYONE who has a job performs a public service. Sure, it would suck if there were no tow truck drivers, just as it would suck if there were no bakers, plumbers, IT techs, etc. I'm sure all their jobs suck sometimes, too. And yet, they're still expected to follow the law...

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 11:15 AM

  • Tow truck companies charge money for service calls because we dont get money from the state or city like the police, E.M.T.,and Fire dept. And if you ever do need to call the E.M.T. or fire dept. you will get a big bill for it. you just dont know it cause your insurance covers it.

  • I am an owner of a towing company in Canada. My company is on R.C.M.P rotation. I also do District towing for violations. I have told the previous owner "If your out to make friends then you are in the wrong business". When you show up at a break down the customer is pissed off. He knows it's gonna cost him money. If illegally parked as we have terrorists oops! I mean tourists they feel they can park wherever they feel like an are pissed off when they have to get their truck and boat trailer out of the impound as it sat there for the whole long weekend.
Another thing to keep in mind is the hazard of hooking up on highway or in your case freeway while other motorists go flying by with no regard for your safety. Something as minor as not paying for a parking meter tells others you have been on the naughty list and had to pay an impound charge or two. Not all towing companies are out to screw you and others, however they are out there as well. I have one here as well eg.. not naming names as I don't stoop to their level $98.00 +tax to tow three blocks.(this is a small town).

  • Somebody should have stuck it to that towing company. Or better yet they should have reported it to the towing company to come and tow it away. haha! http://www.bellfieldtowing.com
